Building Premier – One journey at a time
What began in 1990 as a small local taxi operation has grown into one of the region’s most established private hire companies — shaped by long hours, steady expansion and a willingness to invest early in change.
From the very beginning with just five cars in 1990 — Premier set out to do things differently. There was a clear belief that taxi services could be delivered to a higher standard than people were used to at the time.
In the early days, dedication mattered more than scale. Sleeping on the office floor between calls, the team responded the moment the phone rang and went straight out to waiting customers. That hands-on approach built trust quickly and, by 1997, the fleet had grown to 30 vehicles.
Growth continued over the following years and, in 2009, Premier expanded into Lytham St Annes with the acquisition of Fylde Taxis, later rebranded as Premier 711111. The move ended a local monopoly and introduced long-needed competition to the area.
A defining chapter began in 2015, when Premier introduced the area’s first 100% electric taxis. The decision marked the start of a long-term shift in how the business viewed fleet investment and its responsibility to the communities it serves.
Following strong feedback from both drivers and customers, the transition accelerated. In September 2018, Premier made a clear commitment by banning all diesel vehicles across its Blackpool and Lytham St Annes fleets. Today, the business operates hybrid-electric and fully electric vehicles only.
To date, Premier has invested more than £3 million in electric vehicles and now operates over 100 Nissan Leaf cars alongside Nissan e-NV200 electric minibuses. Collectively, the fleet has completed more than 10 million zero-emission miles, helping to reduce exhaust-related emissions across the Fylde Coast.
Premier owns and operates a dedicated network of charging stations across six locations in Blackpool, powered entirely by renewable energy sources including wind, hydro and solar. Dispatch systems further reduce emissions by allocating jobs based on vehicle proximity, cutting unnecessary empty mileage.
This long-term approach to service quality, technology and sustainability has been recognised through industry awards and national acknowledgement over the years.
